Burbank Bulldog Jazz Big Band

 

Our jazz band has been growing and improving every year. Last year at the Fullerton College Jazz Festival we scored Unanimous Superior, and 1st place in our division at the La Palma Jazz Festival. With the help from Assistant Director David Borok and Percussion instructor Barney Lane, Mr. Stanley plans to lead jazz band to victory again in the 2010-2011 school year.

The Burbank High Bulldog Jazz Band is a full big band jazz ensemble. Our focus is to teach students about all the varying styles associated with jazz music. 

Students will learn about jazz history and how to perform the different musical styles including blues, jazz, funk, latin, afro-cuban, swing, bee-bop and much more. Students will also learn the concept of improvisation -- to improvise a melody on their instrument over chord changes. 

Jazz band performs in concert several times throughout the semester, along with various adjudicated festivals in the spring, at the downtown Burbank Arts Festival, and occasionally in the high school quad.
