Concert Band and Wind Ensemble

Wind Ensemble

 

Wind Ensemble is the upper level group of the two bands. With only one person on a part. The Wind Ensemble performs several times through out the year and attends at least one adjudicated music festival.

 

Wind Ensemble focuses on grade 2-5 literature. Students will continue training on their instruments begin to focus on extended tecnique and higher lever performance. Students will also learn therory, ear training, and performance practice.

 

All students returning to the program will have been auditioned the previous Spring to determine their placement for the current year.  They will be assigned to the band that most appropriately fits their ability and needs (either Concert Band or Wind Ensemble per. 4).

 

Concert Band

 

The concert band performs many times throughout the year in a concert setting and attends at least one adjudicated festival in the spring. This Ensemble has now been taken over by Assistant Director Maurice Limon who will be taking concert band to festival this year.

 

The concert band focuses on grade 1-3 literature. Students will continue training on their instruments while gaining further knowledge on theory, scales, ear training and performance.

 

Almost all new band students at BHS will be enrolled in Per. 1 Concert Band.  During the first few weeks of school, these students will audition for placement within the ensemble.  This audition will consist of a few scales, a prepared piece and a short sight-reading excerpt.
